BENNETTSVILLE — The City of Bennettsville held its annual Trunk-Or-Treat extravaganza on Saturday afternoon between 3 and 5:30 p.m. outside City Hall. The creepy candy crawl was followed by an outdoor community showing of Hocus Pocus 2 at 7 p.m.

The busy day of terrifyingly good fun was filled with vendors, community leaders, businesses, and even its protective service members were present to hand out candy and elicit smiles from partygoers. Many sponsors and vendors participated in the trunk-or-treat party while Trinity Behavioral Care, the Bennettsville Police Department, and the Town of Bennettsville sponsored the movie viewing on the lawn of Bennettsville’s City Hall.

Denise Ingram who came with her children said, “I have had a lot of fun bringing my kids here and taking them around to get candy. I know they have had a great time.”

Even so, all three of Ingram’s kids say they are looking forward to next Friday’s main event, Halloween.

In addition to free candy, partygoers were treated to bouncy castles, games, music, bubbles, spooky costumes, and scary car trunks galore Saturday.

Dressed as a runaway cast member from the set of Beetlejuice, Jessica Look with the Catholic charity Healthy Learners said she was really enjoying handing out candy and getting to know the community.

“We have been in Dillon for 25 years, but this is only our second year in Marlboro County, so it is a really big deal for us,” says Look. “Our organization is non-profit and everyone with a need qualifies for services.”

Some of the services provided by Healthy Learners include transportation, dentistry, and further medical resources for those in need, says Look, who adds that her organization is committed to identifying and removing any healthcare barriers to education.

Also enjoying themselves handing out candy was Maria Franqui and Mark Scott of Scott Vision Properties. “We love being a part of this event. It is great for the kids,” said Franqui, adding the pair always enjoys seeing all the unique and creative costumes the children dress up in each year.
