BENNETTSVILLE — The steps of the Marlboro County Courthouse became a stage for unity, dialogue, and healing as community members gathered for the Bridging the Gap event, a grassroots effort to strengthen relationships between residents, leaders, and institutions.

The event drew a diverse crowd of faith leaders, youth, and local officials who came together with the shared purpose of addressing divisions, celebrating common ground, and charting a path toward a stronger, more connected Marlboro County.

Speakers emphasized the importance of listening, understanding, and working together across differences. Messages of hope, accountability, and collaboration echoed through the streets of Marlboro as participants reflected on the challenges facing the community and the opportunities that come from standing together.

“Bridging the Gap is about more than words, it’s about action, compassion, and building trust,” said Bennettsville Mayor Tyrone Abraham. “When we come together in spaces like this, we show that Marlboro County is committed to progress and healing.”

Organizers expressed hope that Bridging the Gap will not be a one-time gathering but the beginning of an ongoing movement. Plans are already being discussed for future forums, youth programs, and collaborative projects that will continue the work of building bridges across Marlboro County.

As the evening closed, one sentiment resonated with all in attendance: Progress begins when communities come together, face challenges head-on, and commit to walking forward—side by side.
