MARLBORO COUNTY — Under a sky streaked with patriotism and pride, Marlboro County came together on August 23rd to honor its heroes at the inaugural Military Appreciation Day held at the Marlboro County Jetport. The event, organized in collaboration with local veterans’ groups, civic leaders, and the Marlboro County Economic Development Partnership, drew residents, service members, and families for a day of celebration, remembrance, and community connection.

The Jetport’s runway transformed into a living tribute, lined with vintage aircraft, military vehicles, and interactive exhibits that showcased the evolution of American defense. Veterans from every branch stood shoulder to shoulder with active-duty personnel, sharing stories, saluting comrades, and receiving heartfelt thanks from attendees.

Throughout the afternoon, families enjoyed food trucks serving Southern favorites, and resource booths offering everything from VA benefits assistance to mental health support. .

Military Appreciation Day at the Jetport marked a new tradition for Marlboro County—one rooted in gratitude, storytelling, and collective pride. Plans are already underway to expand next year’s event with more exhibits, guest speakers, and regional partnerships.

As the sun set over the tarmac and fireworks lit up the Bennettsville sky, one sentiment echoed through the crowd: “Thank you for your service.” And in that moment, Marlboro County stood united — not just in celebration, but in commitment to those who’ve given so much.
