A legacy of courage, compassion and change
MARLBORO COUNTY — On July 12, at 1 p.m., the community came together for the 3rd Annual “Stop The Bullying” event — a gathering born from heartbreak, yet fueled by hope. The event honors the memory of Nah’Zia “Zi” Cook, a beloved young soul whose life was tragically lost due to relentless bullying.
Zi’s story is one that shook the Marlboro County community. Her vibrant spirit and quiet strength touched many, and her absence created a void that still echoes through schools, neighborhoods and hearts. But rather than allow grief to silence her daughter’s voice, Tanesha Cook — Zi’s devoted mother — has transformed pain into purpose.
Through anti-bullying back-to-school giveaways and open conversations about mental health and youth safety, Tanesha has turned advocacy into action. Her message is clear: Every child deserves protection, respect and love. And through community outreach, she is fostering a culture where kindness wins and silence no longer covers suffering.
This year’s “Stop The Bullying” event will feature resources for students and families, heartfelt tributes, and empowering messages from local leaders and advocates. But most importantly, it stands as a living reminder that Zi’s story continues to inspire change — and that her legacy is one of resilience, unity and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her mission.
