MARLBORO COUNTY — Officials with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office have said an inmate in Marlboro County has been formally charged after drugs were discovered in his socks following a court appearance for bond at the magistrate court.

According to reports, Omar Wright was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, simple possession of marijuana and contraband possession by an inmate.

Officials said Wright was apprehended for an unrelated incident and was subsequently discovered to have these items concealed inside his sock at the detention center following his return from a court appearance for bond at the magistrate court.

Sheriff Larry McNeil has requested that the warden at the jail conduct an internal review of how the inmate was able to introduce these items into the facility after his prior search upon initially entering the facility.
