MCCOLL — Two men are in custody in connection to what authorities called a recent “heinous” assault and shooting.
According to MCSO, both men’s charges are linked to an incident early Sunday at the Ashlyn Park Apartments in McColl.
Hakeem McLaurin and Oliver Pickens allegedly assaulted a victim before taking them to a secluded area in Clio, telling them to “run” — and opening fire at them as they ran.
Someone passing by later found the victim with serious injuries and gunshot wounds. The victim as taken to a hospital.
Officials said Wednesday McLaurin turned himself in after being wanted since Sunday. McLaurin faces several charges including attempted murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.
The other suspect in the case, Pickens, was arrested earlier this week. He has been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, conspiracy, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of stolen firearms.
In connection to the investigation, Marlboro County deputies searched a home on Williams Street in McColl and they found multiple guns, including ones that had been reported stolen in the area. Another firearm reportedly had an obliterated serial number, along with the car used to move the victim.
Pickens and McLaurin were each booked at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
