MARLBORO COUNTY — Members of the Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., along with members of Delta Academy, Delta GEMS and parents, attended a concert featuring the Watoto Children’s Choir on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the Scotland High School Auditorium in Laurinburg, N.C.

The program was sponsored by the Scotland Youth Development and HOLLA! Africa. The theme for the occasion was “Celebrating Black History Through Music- Better Days: There is Hope.”

The Watoto Children’s Choir is composed of children from Uganda who travel the world sharing stories of hope, resilence, and God’s unfailing love through song, dance, and testimonies, in addition to raising awareness of disadvantaged children in Africa.

The Watoto children shared their personal experiences that gave the audience hope and a reason to believe in a brighter future. Over the past 35 years, the Watoto organization has rescued babies, toddlers, and children who have lost one or both parents. They also provide vulnerable women with housing, healthcare, training opportunities, employment, as well as education for their children.

The event was an inspiration to Delta Academy and Delta GEMS participants, parents, and chapter members. Chapter president is Gina Owens, vice president is Margaret Primus, and Delta Academy and Delta GEMS chair is Eunice Ray.
