BENNETTSVILLE — Bennettsville Police Chief Kevin Miller is retiring after eight years on the job, according to City Manager William Simon Jr., who made the announcement on March 1.

“Chief Miller has been a steadfast leader, overseeing countless improvements in public safety and working tirelessly to protect and serve the residents of Bennettsville,” Miller said in a release. “We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for his commitment and exceptional leadership throughout his career.”

City officials said Assistant Police Chief Sammy Crosland has been named Acting Chief.

“With 28 years of experience in law enforcement and proven leadership, Acting Chief Crosland is well-positioned to continue the high standards of service that our community expects and deserves,” Miller said. “He will take the helm in ensuring that our police department continues to uphold its mission of safeguarding Bennettsville’s residents.”

City officials said the transition would not disrupt police operations or services provided to the the community.

“Public safety remains our top priority and our officers remain committed to protecting and serving with the same professionalism and dedication you have come to rely on,” they said. “The city administration is confident that with Acting Chief Crosland’s leadership, the City of Bennettsville Police Department will continue to thrive, maintaining a safe and welcome environment for all. Our community will not miss a beat and we are excited about the continued progress and innovation in our law enforcement efforts.”

“We wish Chief Miller all the best in his well-deserved retirement and look forward to the continued excellence of the Bennettsville Police Department under Acting Chief Crosland,” they said.
