Marlboro Area Career Fair provides various employment opportunities

With graduation more than a month away, Marlboro County High School senior Ahmad Knight came to the Marlboro Area Career Fair Wednesday looking for options.
Knight was happy with what he found.
"I felt like there were a lot of opportunities," he said.
In fact, Knight received information about attending Northeastern Technical College in the fall.
More than 100 seekers came to the event to talk with 35 employers about employment and volunteer opportunities in Marlboro County and the Pee Dee region.
Michael Pernell, job preparedness instructor at Vocational Rehabilitation, was pleased with the turnout.
The main purpose, he said, was to help job seekers have better access to employers in the Pee Dee region, Scotland and Marlboro areas.
"This is a great setting where they are able to capitalize and take advantage of these opportunities available," he said.
He added it also gave the employers a chance to see the candidates that could potentially be a great asset to their team.
Potential employees had a chance to see positions in manufacturing, production, healthcare, assembly, and other areas.
"It covered a great mixture of what employers are looking for and for potential employees to take advantage of," he said.
Syntrell Thompson was at a table representing  Nurse-Family Partnership, which works with first-time mothers and their babies.
She felt it was a great opportunity for all segments of the community to find resources.
"They have a wide variety of resources and opportunities for people to be engaged from volunteering to internships," Thompson said.
