ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Earlier this month, a McColl man was arrested in Rockingham, N.C., on charges of vehicle theft, drug possession, and resisting a public officer.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported that its Community Impact Team located a stolen vehicle parked at a business on Broad Avenue. When investigators approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Hykeem Ravon McLaurin, 29, of McColl, South Carolina, attempted to flee by putting the car in reverse. Officials quickly blocked the vehicle and ordered McLaurin to put the car into park.
Ignoring the commands, McLaurin reached for an object inside the car’s center console, according to investigators. After repeated orders, he eventually complied and put the car into park. Authorities removed McLaurin from the vehicle and conducted a search.
Inside the stolen car, deputies discovered 322 MDMA pills, 74.28 grams of marijuana, nine grams of cocaine, five milliliters of hydrochloride, assorted drug paraphernalia and more than $6,000 in U.S. currency.
McLaurin was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver (PWISD) a Schedule II controlled substance, trafficking MDMA, PWISD marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resisting a public officer. He was also served two warrants from Scotland County for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and failure to appear on drug charges.
McLaurin is currently being held at the Richmond County Jail under a $117,001 secured bond.
