Bennettsville Fire Department holds summer youth camp

Bennettsville Fire Department officials were pleased with the response for their first youth summer camp held last week.
Fire Chief James Jackson III said there were 16 campers in various ages and 10 adults helping with the camp.
The camp was held in the fire department's portion of the new Bennettsville Public Safety Complex.
"It was very good," he said. "All of the kids were receptive to it."
During the camp, the youth had a chance to visit other places in the city and county along with learning about the fire fighting.
Jackson said the camp helped them find youth interested in the Explorer program. Four youth from the camp wanted to join the program.
"One of the main purposes was to give the kids something to do and let them know what we do," Jackson said.
Youth learned everything from fire prevention to participating in a training maze.
Campers received participation awards during a ceremony on June 20.
Youth participating in the camp were Holden Hughes, Ethan Smith, Davease Alford, Ashton Eppolito, Nathaniel Bennett, Ryan Dew, Kayden Clyburn, Garrett Sweatt, Connor Jennings, RJ Hayes, Nash Harpe, Adam Frazier, Aaron Frazier, Benjamin Vyehara, Thomas Dew IV, Tyler Benton, Robert Dew and Marshall Douglas.
