It appears that the matter of lifting Sunday blue law restrictions will appear on the ballots of the November 2016 general election in the form of a referendum.
During Tuesday's meeting of Bennettsville City Council, City Administrator Max Alderman reported on his most recent communication with Marlboro County officials.

There was plenty to do in Marlboro County last weekend, as anyone who passed through downtown Bennettsville, by Marlboro County High School or Lake Paul Wallace can attest. The 2015 Summerfest kicked off Saturday morning, with activities and events throughout the day and evening, and continued Sunday with a church service and water ski show at the lake. Also on Saturday morning, the MCHS Class of 2015 made its final march across the stage at graduation.

Town hall meeting focuses on issue of domestic violence
A large crowd gathered at the Bennettsville Community Center last week to hear and talk about what S.C. Rep. Patricia Henegan called a major public health and criminal concern: domestic violence.
Henegan hosted a town hall meeting Thursday evening, June 4, to raise awareness of the issue. She brought in two guest speakers who had dramatic stories to tell: a woman who escaped an abusive relationship and a man whose mother and four siblings were murdered by his stepfather.

Board adopts budget with no tax hike

The Marlboro County Board of Education solidified its commitment to not raising taxes this year during a special called meeting Monday night.
The board gave second reading approval, and then waived an optional third reading, of a general operating budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year. The budget totals $31,255,963 and is balanced without a tax millage increase of any kind.

Summerfest is this weekend in Bennettsville. Here is your program to all the activities. It all kicks off with a concert by beach music legends The Embers Friday night. Saturday is a day of music, food, crafts and activities in downtown Bennettsville. Sunday, the Carolina Water Ski Team will entertain at Lake Paul Wallace.
