For some families, the expense of diapers and wipes can add up.
A recent Diaper Day Giveaway wanted to help alleviate some of the cost for families in the area.
Syntrell Thompson, lead marketing consultant for Syntrell C. Thompson Marketing Group and Associates, said they worked with various community partners to provide diapers and wipe bundles along with resource information to help with diaper disparities on Sept. 16.
An estimated 70 families were helped. Some of the partners include the Marlboro County Coordinating Council, S.C. Works, Welvista, Man 2 Man, Pee Dee Healthy Start, Marlboro County School District, Dillon County Long Term Recovery Group, Marlboro County First Steps, Healthy Blue, The Center for Family and Community Wellness, the Nurse-Family Partnership, and Maternity Health and Resource Center.
“The diaper disparity has always been there, but the pandemic escalated it,” she said.
Thompson said many people don’t think about this need. Many families receive WIC and SNAP benefits but diapers are not covered.
“Even a family with those types of benefits, they are still not able to get those supplies,” she said.
This is the group’s fourth time coming to the area since 2020.
“The numbers have increased every time we have come,” she said.
