The Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® Program has completed another successful summer for the children and families of Marlboro County. This summer was particularly special, as the organization celebrated the 20th anniversary of the CDF Freedom Schools® Program.

Son, brother, co-worker, friend, and now, fallen hero. These are the words used by many to describe Delton "Del" Daniels, the 22-year-old deputy and volunteer firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty and was buried Tuesday, August 4, in Bennettsville.

Police Dept. hosts National Night Out
The Bennettsville Police Department hosted "National Night Out" Tuesday at the Community Center. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign throughout the country that promotes law enforcement - community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer and improve relationships between officers and the community. It was a night of food, fun and free back-to-school supplies for kids. Captain Greg Williams said the department was pleased with the large turnout for the event and thanked the sponsors for their support.
