Last summer, the City of Bennettsville held its annual Independence Day celebration in a socially distanced style. Folks were asked to stay at their cars for the fireworks display and there were no activities on the beach.
As things begin to return to normal, the seventh annual event will feature music and games on the beach area of Lake Paul Wallace prior to the 9:30 p.m. fireworks finale.
Starting at 3:00 p.m. on the beach at Lake Paul Wallace, a variety of activities including food vendors, inflatable water slides, and public swimming with lifeguards present will be available.
“Silk Groove Revue”, a NC based high-energy, party band playing Soul, R & B, and Carolina Beach music, will hit the stage on the beach from 6:30-9:30 p.m. This is the first performance in this year’s “Two Hours from Anywhere” Summer Concert Series.
“We are excited to have Silk Groove Revue to play their first concert in Marlboro County at the fireworks show. They come highly recommended and play a wide variety of music,” said Elisabeth McNiel, the city’s director of tourism, parks and recreation.
Joining Silk Groove Revue on stage will be former Marlboro County High band director Carl Sinkler, who will be “sitting in” on saxophone.
A world-class fireworks show with musical accompaniment will follow at 9:30 p.m. Anyone who isn’t interested in being part of the crowd on the beach, will be able to enjoy the show from anywhere around the perimeter of the lake.
The day-long events will be free and hosted at Lake Paul Wallace, 200 Jefferson Street in partnership with the Lake Paul Wallace Authority.
For watercraft and trailers, the boat ramp will open at 10:00 a.m. with a limit of 18 watercraft trailers that can be parked at the facility. Boat trailer parking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No additional vehicles will be allowed in the boat ramp area.
All boats will have to be trailered prior to the start of the fireworks show.
