GivingTuesday is held at Bennettsville Community Center

Philanthropy was on display at GivingTuesday Pee Dee in Marlboro County on Tuesday.
Various nonprofits in the county shared information about their organizations along with receiving donations.
Marian R. Davis, founder of Tea Time for Teens, had a display set up with various information about the organization and teacups.
To her, volunteering is as easy as having a cup of tea.
“Teens want to be listened to,” Davis said. “We work with people in learning how to talk to them. It will not only benefit the teen but the person working with them as well.”
Tea Time for Teens is more than a teen pregnancy prevention program but a chance to provide youth with leadership development and exposure to colleges.
Davis said they have plans to volunteer with the Community Kitchen during the holiday.
She enjoyed participating in Giving Tuesday because it gave the program some publicity.
Davis brought canned goods and money so we could give to other groups.

Presidential candidate Kamala Harris campaigns in Marlboro County Sunday

U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris brought her presidential bid to Marlboro County on Sunday.
She attended and spoke briefly at the services at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church and Community of Grace Church, had lunch at Genesis Restaurant and held a meet and greet at Grace Temple Church in Wallace.
Rep. Pat Henegan, who is co-chair of the S.C. campaign, introduced Harris at each event. She noted people don’t care about how much a person knows until they know that the person cares about them.
“Sen. Harris cares about people in every state I have been with her on,” Henegan said. “Sen Harris is the People’s Champ.”
She added Harris has a positive political background and is willing to be the voice in the White House.

Several local dancers will perform when the Columbia City Ballet comes to Bennettsville to perform the Nutcracker on Dec. 7.
It is presented by Bennettsville Bicentennial Celebration with the performance starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Marlboro Civic Center.
The Columbia City Ballet is South Carolina’s largest performing arts organization.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under.
The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story, The Nutcracker and the King of Mice written by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is the story of a young German girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads.
