Playoff brackets set for both Bulldog teams
Both the girls' and boys' varsity basketball teams will tip-off action in the South Carolina Class AAAA playoffs this week. The girls will be on the road at Aiken High School on Tuesday, while the boys will host Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School on Wednesday.

The girls' road trip will be their first playoff appearance since the 2014-15 season ended with a first-round defeat at Stall. Marlboro enters the game with a much more impressive resume than the Lady Green Hornets. However, playing in Region 6-AAAA left Marlboro in fourth place with a 16-8 overall record, 4-6 in the region.

New solid waste service up and running
Monday morning trash collection trucks of Waste Connections, Marlboro County's new third-party solid waste contractor, began servicing residents in the unincorporated areas of the county.
"So far, the results are good. Other than a few houses being missed in the cart delivery, everything has gone smoothly," Doug Carabo, Public Services Director for Marlboro County, told county council at their monthly meeting Tuesday.
"We initially asked citizens to call the county with any issues as we got the service started. Now, we are at the point in implementation to turn everything over to Waste Connections. So we are asking anyone with service issues or missed pick-ups to call the company," said Carabo.

Despite loss to NMB, Bulldogs claim region title
It didn't happen exactly as the Marlboro County boys hoped, but after all the results are in, the Bulldogs are the Region 6-4A champs.
The Bulldogs entered Tuesday night's regular season finale against North Myrtle Beach needing a win to lock up the title. They didn't get that but they did get a Hartsville upset of Myrtle Beach, which secured the championship.
"North Myrtle Beach played a tough, physical game tonight. They are a good team, and they gave us motivation going forward in the post season," said MCHS head coach LaTroy Brace.
"We simply just got outplayed and out-hustled. At the end of the day, we still walked away region champs. So that’s all that matters. It rained on our parade a bit but we have plans for a bigger and better parade," said Brace.
The Chiefs pulled out a 59-57 victory, scoring the winning basket with 5.8 seconds to play. The Bulldogs used two timeouts to set up a potential tying or winning shot but never managed to get off an attempt.

Club focuses on entrepreneurship and being neighborly
CLIO — After seeing all of the different school shootings and negative behavior from people, Eva Chiphe had an idea.
She wanted to create a club that stressed love and kindness to others.
“I think what is missing is that people don’t love one another,” she said.
“And to choose love in any situation,”Chiphe said. “Choose love instead of fighting or saying words that will upset someone else.”
