Industry Training Center gets state funding, moving ahead
The Marlboro County Industry Training Center project now has state funding and will be going forward with plans to open by the fall of 2016.
The Marlboro County Economic Development Partnership board received that update Monday from Northeastern Technical College president Dr. Ron Bartley during the group's monthly meeting.
"This facility will be unique to the state of South Carolina," said Bartley.

More than 150 local kids took to the waters of Lake Paul Wallace last week for an epic adventure that most of them had never experienced before: canoeing.
The WIN Agency of Bennettsville partnered with a non-profit organization called Canoeing for Kids to host the event, which served 162 local youths last Thursday, July 9.

Sunday blue laws under review

This week, Marlboro County Council took the first step toward temporarily lifting the blue laws that limit when stores can be open and what items can be sold before 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.
The council gave unanimous first reading approval to an ordinance that would suspend "the application of Sunday work prohibitions" during their regular monthly meeting Monday. Two more readings and a public hearing are required before the ordinance becomes law.

The new fiscal year is underway. Both Marlboro County Council and the Board of Education have adopted budgets for 2015-16 which included property tax millage rates for the new years.

Marlboro County's Post 213 Junior Legion baseball team is headed to the state championship tournament. Wednesday's victory over Camden to finish a two-game sweep of the series came with a dramatic seventh inning.
Marlboro's Clint English provided a walk-off single that scored Hunter Barfield, breaking a 6-6 tie and setting off a celebration by the Post 213 players.
