School board discusses PARD funding, support for Walker Park
Murdell Walker McFarlin traveled from Atlanta to appear before the Marlboro County Board of Education this week, asking the board to support her dream of developing and upgrading Walker Park.
Walker Park is next to the former Bennettsville Elementary/Eastside High School on North Cook Street. It is named for McFarlin's parents, the late Floyd and Tomasena Walker, who were longtime educators in the community.

It's been a whirlwind year for McColl native Jennifer Geddie Ainsworth.
A special education teacher at Socastee High School, Ainsworth was honored to become South Carolina's 2015 Teacher of the Year. In that role, she spent the last school year traveling around the state and beyond as an ambassador for public education.
She visited schools all over South Carolina with two of her students, Savannah and Ezra, by her side, spreading the message of awareness and respect for those with intellectual disabilities.

Bennettsville Rotarians had a three-pronged agenda at their last luncheon meeting of this fiscal year Tuesday at The Skye.
President-Elect Amber Bowen was installed as President for the 2015-16 Rotary year by Past President and Assistant Governor Ron King.
