Police Dept. hosts National Night Out
The Bennettsville Police Department hosted "National Night Out" Tuesday at the Community Center. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign throughout the country that promotes law enforcement - community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer and improve relationships between officers and the community. It was a night of food, fun and free back-to-school supplies for kids. Captain Greg Williams said the department was pleased with the large turnout for the event and thanked the sponsors for their support.

It also seems to be true that if you just provide it - they will come.
For years, one of the biggest missing pieces in the Marlboro County Recreation Department's puzzle was a gym. To run any indoor programs, the Recreation Department had to coordinate with the school district to use one of their gymnasiums, usually on a weekend.

Workers with Rosser Roofing Company work this week to replace the roof on the D.D. McColl House, a historic property on West Main Street in downtown Bennettsville. Funded by the county, the project is expected to be complete sometime next week.

The new school year is still a few weeks away but preparations for the 2015 football season will start getting serious this Friday.
"We have had a productive summer. The guys showed a good deal of improvement during passing league contests and conditioning workouts. Now, it is time to put it all together," said Dean Boyd, who will be starting his 18th season as the Bulldogs' head coach.
