Bulldogs stuck in mud in loss to Hartsville
Under perfect conditions, it would be difficult for this Marlboro County High football team to defeat the top-ranked Hartsville Red Foxes.  Friday night was far from ideal weather.
With the monsoonal rains that hit South Carolina over the weekend just kicking into high gear, the Bulldogs fell to the Foxes, 34-12.

Bennettsville native and University of South Carolina senior Chelsea Bullock was recently crowned Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival in Darlington. She will represent the Darlington Pilot Club, the city of Darlington and the festival at the 2017 Miss South Carolina Pageant in Columbia next June. The pageant is an official preliminary to Miss South Carolina and Miss America.

Bulldogs still playing despite the weather

As of 1 p.m. Friday, the Marlboro County - Hartsville football game will take place despite the rainy weather.  The Bulldogs and Red Foxes are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 tonight at Kellytown Stadium, near Hartsville.

Bennettsville man arrested for operating a gambling house

Marlboro County Sheriff Fred Knight announces the arrest of Charles Andrew McRae, aka “Happy Jack,” 54 years old of 604 Center Street, Apt 3A, Bennettsville for Operating a Gambling House and Possession of Gambling Equipment.  The MCSO and SLED raided the operation on Railroad Ave today and seized 14 machines and the cash from the machines.

Group organizes to fight hunger
A group of Marlboro County leaders has come together to help address an urgent problem in the community: food insecurity among children.
According to a recent report by the organization Feeding America, Marlboro County ranks worst in the state for child food insecurity, with 32.5 percent of children in the county considered food insecure.
