Republican Presidential Preference Primary is Saturday

South Carolina will host its Republican Presidential Preference Primary this Saturday, February 20, with the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary to follow one week later.
Voters in the Republican primary must choose among these candidates: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, John Kasich, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump.

Lake Wallace Authority seeking grant to improve walking trail
The Lake Paul Wallace Authority is seeking $75,000 in grant funding to refurbish and improve the walking trail around the lake. 
The funds are derived from a portion of the federal gas tax that is paid on recreational vehicles. Grants awarded through the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s State Trails Program.

Bulldogs to host St. James in playoffs

Marlboro County High's boys' basketball team will host St. James High School in the first round of South Carolina Class AAA playoffs Tuesday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.  If the Bulldogs are successful against the Sharks, they will host the winner of the Airport  - Orangeburg - Wilkerson game on Friday night.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church sponsored its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper this week. Church members cooked and served up plates of pancakes while Marlboro County High School music students provided special entertainment to those who chose to eat at the church on Fayetteville Avenue in Bennettsville. City Council hears report on community recreation project

An informal committee made up of county councilmen representing the rural areas of Marlboro County and a few citizens from Bennettsville has been working for almost a year to develop a comprehensive plan for recreation.
The plan is far from complete, but County Councilman Ron Munnerlyn appeared before Bennettsville City Council in a work session Tuesday to report on its progress.
