Runoff election for school board chairman is next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, November 18, is the day Marlboro County voters will decide on the person who will lead the school board for the next four years. 
The current chair, Lucy Parsons, and former acting chair, Michael Toms, are facing off in a runoff election.
In the general election on November 4, Toms received 2,567 votes to Parsons' 2,078.

Veterans Day celebration

Veterans Day celebration
The Marlboro County Council on Aging celebrated Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11, with a special musical performance. Three local veterans who participate in the Council's activities were honored: Stan Lintner, 10 years in the Air Force; Johnnie Thomas, four years in the Marines; and Richard Rivers, an employee of the Council, two years in the Army. Board votes 5-3 to amend, extend Tillar's contract

A majority of the Marlboro County Board of Education voted to extend the superintendent's contract to 2018, remove the contract's buyout clause, and require a "super majority" of six rather than a simple majority of five in order for the board to terminate her in the future.

Two candidates for Marlboro County Board of Education chairman appear to be headed for a runoff, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's general election.
