The Tams to play in B'ville Thursday

The legendary R & B vocal group The Tams will perform in Bennettsville on Thursday as a part of the 2 Hours from Anywhere concert series.
The group from Atlanta are famous for their string of 1960s hits "What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)", "Hey Girl Don't Bother Me", "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" and "I've Been Hurt".
Forming in 1960, they got their name from the tam o'shanter hats that all the members wear on stage.  They had their first success in 1964 with "What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)" and continued to be regulars on the chart through the decade.

Countdown to kickoff begins at jamboree media day

For most folks, it is mid-summer but for high school football coaches, it is only a couple of weeks before the start of fall.
As they wrap up their offseason, a number of the area's coaches were in Bennettsville Monday for the media day for the Dennis Miller Jamboree of Champions.  The annual exhibition will be played August 16 at McAlpine Stadium.
"There have been some state rule changes this year and teams are much more limited with the number of scrimmages and jamborees that they can participate in.  I am grateful that the other 13 teams agreed to participate in our jamboree," said MCHS head coach Bobby Collins.
The event, named in memory of longtime recreation director and Bulldog booster Dennis Miller, will feature six head coaches who are in their first seasons at their respective schools, including Collins.

MCLTRG’s ‘Roof Blitz’ helps to repair four houses

After dealing with roof damage since September, Debbie Breeden slept well for the first time on July 11.
“I won’t have to worry about anything anymore,” she said.
Breeden and three other homeowners don’t have to worry about roof leaks anymore after volunteers with the Marlboro County Long Term Recovery Group did repairs July 11-12.
“I feel great about it because there isn’t anything too hard for God to do,” Breeden said. “And I am loving everything they are doing for us.”
The MCLTRG formed last fall after Hurricane Florence to collect and receive funds to help people after a disaster.
The group is using the monies to help people who weren’t able to get help from FEMA or from other resources available for disaster victims or did not receive enough help.

Concert planned for tonight at Community Center

The City of Bennettsville will continue the 2 Hours From Anywhere Concert Series with a performance by PaperWork tonight, July 11.  The concert, originally planned for on the lawn of the Murchison School, will be held at the Bennettsville Community Center due to the threat of rain.
The concert is free to the public.  Bring your chairs and coolers and sit back and enjoy the musical stylings of this Myrtle Beach party band.
Paperwork was a big hit in their Bennettsville premier last summer, performing prior to the Independence Day fireworks show.  PaperWork is a high-energy party band that covers tunes from groups ranging from Snoop Dogg to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Michael Jackson to Jimi Hendrix.
They also play a selection of original tunes in their own sense of “futuristic funk.”
