A winter storm, forecast to bring up to an inch of snow to Marlboro County Wednesday afternoon and evening, delivered a bigger surprise as the snow just kept on coming. There have been reports of as much as four inches of snow measured in parts of the county, to the delight of children like these (at left). Frigid temperatures are expected through the rest of the week and weekend, making travel especially dangerous.
Like most businesses in Marlboro County, the Herald-Advocate office is closed on Thursday due to the winter weather and unsafe driving conditions. We will reopen when the situation improves. While this issue of the Herald-Advocate was printed on schedule, the icy roads may delay retrieving it from the printer in Fayetteville. While something of an inconvenience, the snow provides many interesting photo opportunities, including the nativity scene (right) at the corner of Tyson Avenue and Fayetteville Avenue in Bennettsville.
