As Bennettsville Intermediate School Principal Crystal Halma gave a tour of the construction happening at the school, she could hardly contain her excitement.
“These kids deserve it,” she said as she showed the new cafeteria being built.
In November of 2018, voters approved a $10 million general obligation bond for the Marlboro County School District.
The funds are being used for new construction at BIS for a new cafeteria and a state-of-the-art auditorium. Work is being done to address the drainage issues in the old auditorium.
Halma would like to start a theater club or a drama club for students.
It will also make award ceremonies better. Ceremonies are currently held in the gym, which is not air-conditioned.
“It has been the biggest complaint of parents about how warm it is,” she said.
