– Six employees of Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College recently received state service certificates and pins. The employees were honored at a luncheon meeting of the CMTC Board of Trustees in February. Vice-Chairman Dr. John Kirby and President, Dr. Ron Hampton, presented service awards to Mary K. Newton, assistant dean of students, 20 years; Jean Allison, counselor, career development/placement, 20 years; Betty Matheson, social sciences instructor, 10 years; Sharon Thurman, director for human resources, 20 years; Hayne White, office systems technology and business instructor, 10 years; and Robert Smith, electronics technology instructor, 20 years.

– Rep. Doug Jennings told the Herald-Advocate that he had delivered a letter to Gov. David Beasley requesting that the Governor “consider ordering a special election to fill the unexpired term of Auditor.” The current auditor, Mrs. Delorice B. Cox, was elected Treasurer of Marlboro County last fall and will take office in this position on July 1. “Since there will be approximately two years left on the term of office for the Auditor, and since it is my belief that the fair approach to this situation would be to allow the people of Marlboro County to make their own selection as to the person to fill this important office, I would respectfully request that you consider ordering a special election in Marlboro County to fill the unexpired term of the Auditor.”

– The Bennettsville Downtown Redevelopment Association, in cooperation with the City of Bennettsville, announces the first annual Sap Risin’ Festival to be held Saturday, April 5. The all-day festival is dedicated to celebrating spring and the newness of the season.

– Kimberly Hayes and LaTonya Brown, two interns in the Marlboro County Historical Museum, work to hand the South Carolina Ordinance of Secession in the new Military Room. Kimberly and LaTonya are two seniors from the Marlboro County High School JROTC program chosen to participate in the internship sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Bennettsville and the Museum.
