This past week, the Marlboro County High School Varsity Softball went 2 and 2 with 2 region wins.

Region wins against Lake City with scores of 16 to 2 and 10 to 0.

Varsity Softball Coach Kevin Inglis said their losses came against Scotland County and Andrew Jackson.

The team went into extra innings against Scotland, and they lost 1 to 0 in 8 innings.

“This was one of the best games in recent years Marlboro County has played but, unfortunately, we came up short,” Inglis said. “We are hitting the ball hard right now but always right to someone. We are shorthanded with two starters injured, but that just shows how much talent we have this year. To still be able to compete with some strong teams from the Carolinas.”

Addison Skipper, a 7th grader, went 7 for 13 with 2 triples, 2 doubles and 3 RBIs in the last 4 games.

“She is hitting the ball really hard right now and teams are trying to pitch around her in the lineup,” Inglis said.

He said Harley Oxendine is another player doing really well, going 5 for 9 at the plate.

Inglis pointed out that Mackenzie Kubas was their player of the week. “The past week she had 39 strikeouts, ERA .075, allowing an average of 4 hits a game, while going 5 for 12 at the plate with 2 triples and 5 RBIs,” he said.
