Marlboro County has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 8.6% based on the data released for the January employment situation.

Allendale County was second at 7.7%.

Saluda County and Lexington County have the lowest county unemployment rates in the state with 3.0% and 2.9% respectively.

The unemployment rate for the state is 3.5%.

Unemployment rates in the Pee Dee region saw increases with Florence County going from 3.3 to 3.8%; Darlington County from 3.7 to 4.2%; Chesterfield County from 4.o to 4.5%; Dillon County 5.2 to 5.9%; Williamsburg County from 5.2 to 6%; and Marion County from 5.9 to 7 %.

According to the Department of Employment and Workforce, no employment numbers are released in February of each year.

Every March, the January employment situation and the February employment situation are released.

The February numbers will be released on March 25.

Employment and Workforce Executive Director Dan Ellzey said South Carolina’s employment situation continues to prosper with a total of 2,292,415 South Carolinians working in January 2022.

In comparison with the revised state numbers for 2021, this is an increase of 5,854 employed in the state since December 2021 and a substantial increase of 51,748 employed since January 2021.

The national unemployment rate is 3.9%.

In January 2021, Marlboro County had an unemployment rate of 8.3%.
