A licensed and bonded wildlife removal service is working in the “Lakeside” area of Bennettsville to address recent sightings of foxes and possibly coyotes in people’s yards.
City of Bennettsville Police Chief Kevin Miller said these are licensed professionals with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources with permits to be able to handle animal nuisance calls to have animals removed off the property.
“The Bennettsville Police Department does not deal with non-domestic animals,” he said. “We will immediately respond to any call for service if made through 911 concerning vicious or threatening animals regardless of whether they are wild or not.”
He said the Police Department has been in close contact with DNR regarding the matter.
“They are aware of it,” Miller said. “We are aware of it. They are monitoring the situation just like we are.”
Rivers Wildlife Removal service of Chesterfield has posted on their Facebook page that they have been contracted to help with the issue.
Traps have been set and other precautions have been taken to ensure the public’s safety.
