Another case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Marlboro County, according to a Friday (May 1) update from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Outdoor dining service for restaurants to start May 4

COLUMBIA – Governor Henry McMaster today announced that the statewide “Work-or-Home” order will be lifted and returned to voluntary status on Monday, May 4. He also announced that beginning on May 4, restaurants throughout South Carolina may provide outdoor customer dining service in addition to existing take out, curbside, and delivery services.

Two more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Marlboro County, according to a Thursday (April 30) update from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Bennettsville delays restart of brown goods pickup

The City of Bennettsville will not pick up brown goods due to COVID-19.
Council approved resuming brown goods pick up at their April 21 meeting.
City Administrator Max Alderman said pick up was to resume in May.
Alderman said COVID-19 has paused the decision to start pick up and when the city will start is up to  Public Works Director  Bill Parrish.
Alderman said Parrish talked with public works directors in other cities and towns.
“They determined the furniture and other things, which are typical of brown goods, have smooth surfaces,” Alderman said. “The virus can live on those surfaces for quite some time.”

Lights on to honor class of 2020

Wednesday evening at 8:20 (20:20 in military time) the lights at Gliarmis Field, Rotary Field and McAlpine Stadium were lit in honor of the Marlboro County High class of 2020.  Above, the view from the outfield of Gliarmis Field, the home of the Bulldogs’ baseball team.  Students, family and supporters rode by the school and a few gathered in the parking lot to observe the bittersweet celebration of the senior class that is having a very nontraditional end to their high school careers.
