After almost 40 years at the corner of Fayetteville and Broad streets, the Herald-Advocate is moving to the center of Bennettsville.

Beginning on Jan. 10, the Herald-Advocate office will be located at 97 W. Market St. on the courthouse square.

“While the newspaper offices will no longer be housed in the historic Shiness building, the business itself is staying in Marlboro County,” said Heath Milligan, general manager of the Herald-Advocate. “We are very excited about this move. For more than 90 years, this newspaper has brought you the news and events of the county.”

Milligan added the Herald-Advocate will continue to deliver the same unbiased news coverage that readers have come to expect and rely upon, as well as providing advertisers with respected, professional media platforms to meet any marketing need.

The Herald-Advocate newspaper and Pee Dee Life magazine, both products of Marlboro Publishing Company, were sold to Champion Media on Sept. 30, 2021, by Bennettsville native Elisabeth Kinney McNiel and her husband Dan. She represented the third generation of family ownership of the Herald-Advocate.

Milligan said the move and being part of the Champion Media family has allowed the newspaper to provide an expanded news coverage area as well as new media options.

With the new office, the staff will be available by phone at 843-479-3815, email, and in-person from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Friday. Staff members include Janet Coates, customer service representative; Jaqueline Hough, news editor; Bennie Miles, graphics; and Heath Milligan, general manager.

The Herald-Advocate will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7, to make the move to its new location.
