Marlboro County School District will once again have the MCSD CARES tree to help students in need have a good Christmas.

“We have the names of students throughout our district who may not have a Christmas if it were not for the kindness of others,” said Connie Anderson, director of communications. “We would love for everyone in the community to come together to work with us on this project.”

Each school has provided a prioritized list of students. A $30 minimum spent on each student is requested. You may exceed this amount, however you are not obligated to do so. There are over 300 students on the list.

Anderson said while monetary donations are appreciated, it is strongly encouraged that you take names and commit to do the shopping.

Gifts must be new, unwrapped, and in original packaging. Clothing must have tags and labels on them. Shoes must be new with no signs of being previously worn, etc. Gift cards are not acceptable.

Gifts are to be placed in gift bags (not wrapped as previously noted) and labeled with the number you are given when receiving the information of your sponsored student.

Gift bags need to be returned to schools by Tuesday, Dec. 14.

Anderson said they are searching for businesses/organizations to sponsor “basic needs bags” for students as well. These “basic needs bags” will include the following: a warm blanket (for those who do not have heat – no electric blankets please), travel pillow, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, deodorant, lotion, gloves, and winter cap.
