Marlboro County Democratic Party 3rd Vice Chair Jaheem McLaurin attended the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Jaheem was elected as a delegate to represent South Carolina as a Party Leader & Elected Officials. He was one of the youngest delegates in the South Carolina Delegation. He attended council and caucus meetings & heard from several distinguished leaders including Former President Barack Obama, Former First Lady Michelle Obama, Former President Bill Clinton, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and Governor Tim Walz. He also heard from Oprah Winfrey, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Jasmine Crockett, and others.
When asked about the convention, he stated “This was an opportunity of a lifetime to be able to attend the DNC as a delegate. To be able to nominate Vice President Harris as the first female of color as the Democratic nominee for President was a huge honor. Only in America can a kid from the South run for office, work on campaigns, complete several fellowships, and attend the DNC as a Delegate. There is so much at stake in this election. Our freedoms. Our democracy. Our justice. Vice President Harris and Coach Walz will fight for our freedoms. They will lower the cost of everyday goods, they will make housing affordable, they will fight for student loan forgiveness, they will fight for common sense immigration reform, they will fight for a women’s right to choose, they will continue to fight for lower prescription drugs, they will stand up to our adversaries, they will fight the climate crisis, they will fight for gun violence prevention, they will support our troops, but most importantly, they will fight for YOU!
Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and supported me to attend the Convention. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves, and do something! Because we are NOT going back!
