The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s mission is to promote the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Our local chapter Alpha Beta was organized in Bennettsville on January 23, 1965. Over the past 58 years, the Alpha Beta Chapter has supported numerous community organizations: Marian Wright Edelman Library’s Summer Reading Program, Marlboro County School District’s Operation Santa Project, Bennettsville Community Kitchen, Marlboro County Museum’s Book Walk, and The Bread of Life Pantry.

Since 1993 the Alpha Beta Chapter has also awarded The Carol Anne Covington Educational Grant each year to a female student who plans a career in education. This grant was established in memory of Alpha Beta member Carol Anne Covington, a dedicated Marlboro County educator.
