MARLBORO COUNTY — Clio may be “small town” by the standards of most, but it sure does know how to party! On Saturday, the feel good, down-home Southern charm and hospitality of Clio’s annual Cotton Festival attracted crowds from across the tri-county area and residents rolled out the red carpet to greet them.
The festival featured food, crafts, kids’ games, all day music entertainment with performances by headliner Level Ten, fall mums, and so much more. Keepsake Tees were also available.
Well attended, patrons praised the hard work of event organizers and commented on the success of Mayor Adam Pate’s initiative to cultivate a strong community through similar type events.
“My family and I are having a great time,” said Sam Sellers who was visiting from nearby Anson County. “I have family here and the mayor seems to be doing a really great job,” he said, adding, “My cousin likes him.”
Hovering in the background stood Marlboro’s finest; the men and women of the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office waiting to protect and serve. The MCSO provided protection so the neighbors of Clio and beyond could have a great time enjoying the day together safely.
Sellers said it was his first time at the Cotton Festival, and he plans to attend next year.
“We will definitely be back,” he said. “It’s nice to see law enforcement taking an active role in getting to know their community.”
