A winter storm last weekend brought up to five inches of snow to the county.

Destiny Day of Bennettsville and her family were sledding down the alley on West Market Street last Saturday.

It was something Day said her mother had done since the 1980s.

“She has gone down these hills right here when it snows,” Day said. “We got a boogie board with us and we are ready to go. That is snowing in the South. It is boogie boards and surf boards.”

Her husband Chad was very surprised that it had snowed so much. “We only get it every few years,” he said. “But when it comes up from Atlanta, you are going to get it.”

Steve Akers, Emergency Management Director/E911, said there were no power outages and no damages from the winter storm.

He added about 3.5 to 5 inches of snow fell in the county.

“It was a pretty little snow fall,” Akers said.
