4-H Youth Development Extension agent acknowledged for public service
FLORENCE – By extending kindness to all, Kinda McInnis, 4-H youth development Extension agent for the Pee Dee region, has been recognized as an Everyday Hero by Florence Toyota.
As part of the recognition program, McInnis is featured on a billboard in Florence.
“Thank you, Florence! To be called an Everyday Hero truly touches my heart in so many ways.” McInnis said. “I’m not a fan of recognition because everything I do is genuine, however; it’s a great feeling to know that what I can give is not only being received but also appreciated.”
Inspired by her selfless dedication to improving the community in which she resides, the community hero was nominated by a long-time friend.
“Kinda is the backbone of change in the Florence community,” said Brandie Hayes, Florence resident. “I have witnessed her influence and impact people of all ages for more than a decade. Her brain trust, power and dedication are what makes her a true change agent in this community.”
Since joining the Extension program in August 2020, Kinda has implemented several programs to educate and elevate youth and families throughout the SC State 1890 Pee Dee service region, which comprises Dillon, Chesterfield, Florence, Marlboro and Marion counties. Some of her most proud moments include the Arts & Citizenship Summer Enrichment Camp, which inspired creativity and community outreach; the AcaSTEMics Summer Camp, which provided resources and activities for education in science, engineering technology and mathematics and Money SMART, a program promoting financial literacy for youth.
Most recently, she visited Creek Bridge STEM Academy in Marion, SC, to instruct students on STEM careers and drone engineering technology.
In addition, Kinda continues to devote her time assisting churches and other organizations with food, clothing and back-to-school drives and other community events.
On behalf of the SC State 1890 Extension Pee Dee region, we are proud of Kinda for her selfless acts of kindness in the community,” said Deborah Hardison, SC State 1890 Extension Pee Dee region director. “She is an outstanding employee, and we are appreciative of Florence Toyota for recognizing a true hero within the community.”
Florence Toyota’s Everyday Heroes recognizes citizens in the community who show a dedication to public service.
The billboard featuring McInnis is located on South Irby Street at East Hutchinson Avenue.
