A bittersweet moment of remembrance and celebration unfolded at the Trinity United Methodist Church Higher Education workshop as the Tschana K. Parnell Memorial Scholarship was bestowed upon a remarkable young student.

This scholarship, re-established to honor the memory of the late Tschana K. Parnell, former MCHS class president and a shining star within our community, serves as a testament to her determined spirit and commitment to excellence.

Tschana K. Parnell, a vibrant and dedicated member of the Class of 2003, left an indelible mark on Marlboro County High School through her unwavering leadership and genuine warmth.

Tragically, she was taken from us far too soon, but her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the positive change she inspired during her time with us.

The scholarship recipient, Brianna (Bri) Davis, a rising star in her own right, embodies the very qualities that made Tschana an exceptional individual. Davis was MCHS 2022 class salutatorian.

Following graduation, Davis attended Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where she earned a 4.0 GPA. Her extracurricular activities include serving as both the admissions ambassador for incoming students and the social media coordinator for the on-campus student union. She also sings in the college gospel choir.

Linda Parnell, Tschana’s mother, stated, “The scholarship announcement was extra special due to the bond between the recipient’s mother, Ashley Williams and the late Tschana Parnell.”

The Tschana K. Parnell Memorial Scholarship was generously funded by donations from Tschana’s family and friends. It will continue to be awarded annually, ensuring that Tschana’s vibrant spirit lives on and continues to motivate future leaders within the school.

The application can be obtained at the guidance office at MCHS or by emailing Tschanakparnellscholarship@gmail.com.

This tribute reminds us that even in the face of tragedy, the power of an individual’s positive influence can endure, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those who follow in their footsteps.
