Various filings and updates are happening at the Marlboro County Voter Registration and Elections office.
Filing started on Aug. 20 for persons interested in becoming the mayor of Clio.
As of press time Wednesday, nobody had filed for the seat. Filing will end at 5 p.m. on Sept. 2. The filing fee is $45.
The special election is Tuesday, Oct. 18. The polling place is the Clio Fire Department, 101 Calhoun Street in Clio.
Early Voting will begin on Monday, Oct. 3 through Friday Oct. 14 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Mayor Ben Petrone resigned on July 21 due to a medical issue.
Blenheim
The Town of Blenheim General Election has closed.
Those filing included Bobby Brock, mayor, and Dollie Dixon Warney, Sabrina Purnell, and Kenlynn Sports McAlister for town council.
Poll managers
Poll managers are needed.
Deputy Director Christy Thompson said she needs to hire several poll managers for the upcoming General Election on Nov. 8.
Those applying must be a registered voter in the county and attend the training session to understand election day procedures.
The deadline to apply is Sept. 30 before 5 p.m.
Poll managers are paid $135 to train and work on Election Day.
Thompson said poll managers are very important.
“We cannot run an election without them,” she said. “They’re essential.”
Early voting
Early voting for the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 24-Nov. 5. The times are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Marlboro County Courthouse. This includes two Saturdays.
