County council took action on a recreation project Tuesday night.
Council members unanimously voted to allow County Administrator Ron Munnerlyn to proceed with securing the option to purchase the Marlboro County Country Club with a due diligence period in pursue of a recreational complex.
County approved a motion 7-1 to cease consideration of the Eastside School property for use as a recreation facility. Council member Kenneth Stroman voted no.
In other business, council members learned the digital sign has been installed on Broad Street.
Munnerlyn said staff would receive training for the operation of the sign with messages posted on the sign soon.
Council members voted to reappoint Sam Bass to the Pee Dee Workforce Development Board.

In other business, council:
-learned the revenues for the 12 months ended June 30 with a total of $12,295,179. General fund expenditures for the 12 months ended June 30 with a total of $11,674,970 of a $12,825,594 budget or 91.03% of budget year to date. Finance Director Wes Park said before the year end, accruals and adjustments will be made. “Currently, revenues exceed expenditures.” Over the following three months considerable work will be performed by finance staff to close the books and financial auditors will prepare the finalized reporting in the form of the annual audit report.
-learned about the Family Fun Day and Back to school Bash from 3-7:30 p.m. on July 30 at Lindsey Park. It will be a free event for first come, first serve. There will be free food and drinks for the first 300 in attendance. It will include bingo with prizes, back to school supplies, bounce houses and more. A special recognition will be held for the upcoming retirement of Council member Corrie Plato for more than 20 years of service.

Employees recognized with five or more years of service to the county through the month of June were Harvey Patterson, seven years; Sharonica Henegan, 15 years; and Robert Stanton, 24 years.
