MARLBORO COUNTY — David Pope, CEO of the Scotland County healthcare system addressed the Marlboro County Council Tuesday night.

He said, “My name is David Pope, and I am the CEO for the Scotland Healthcare System. We are proud to be a part of the community here in Bennettsville in Marlboro County.”

Pope discussed the history of the McLeod hospital. He said, “We know that historically McLeod built a hospital, closed it, and then sold it off.”

He said his organization is proud of the impact it has had on residents’ abilities to not only receive medical care, but also in reaching retail pharmacies in their area.

“We are proud of our commitment here to the fact that we have been one of the few places’ folks can get their needed medical care. We also work closely with our community health outreach to make sure we are doing what we can to support the community.”

Pope says his healthcare system is about making things better and is always willing to work with anyone who wants to make positive improvements in the community.

He clarified for those who have expressed concern, the hospital is required by federal law to take anyone in as a patient regardless of what type of insurance they have. He said his organization is already on the ground providing medical care in the county and therefore is very aware of the community’s healthcare needs.
