BENNETTSVILLE — A Marlboro County man has been denied bond after he allegedly stabbed his 72-year-old mother nearly two dozen times Saturday night at her home near Bennettsville, officials said on Monday.

Raymond Shaun Prichard was denied bond on Monday after being arrested on Sunday and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Deputies said his mother suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of being stabbed more than 20 times in all of her extremities.

She remained hospitalized on Monday, but there was no new information available about her condition.

Judge Mia Weaver ordered a mental evaluation be done before Prichard’s next court appearance at 9 a.m. on Sept. 25.

The incident happened Saturday night, but deputies were not notified until after a family member found the victim on Sunday morning and called 911. Pritchard was found at the scene.

Prichard remains in the Marlboro County Detention Center.
