BENNETTSVILLE — Marlboro County is celebrating a major milestone in public service excellence. Councilwoman Pearly Lawson has officially earned both Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications from the Institute of Government for County Officials, marking a significant step forward in her commitment to informed leadership and community advocacy.
On August 5, 2025, Lawson was recognized for completing a combined 45 hours of formal instruction in county governance. The Level 1 Certification reflects 27 hours focused on the foundations of county government, while the Level 2 Certification builds on that with 18 hours of advanced training in topics such as budgeting, ethics, and intergovernmental relations.
Lawson, a retired school counselor and longtime resident of Bennettsville, has consistently demonstrated her dedication to lifelong learning and civic engagement. Her pursuit of these certifications underscores her belief that effective leadership begins with education, transparency, and a deep understanding of the systems that shape local communities.
These certifications position Lawson to better navigate the complexities of county operations, advocate for smarter policies, and collaborate with fellow council members to address pressing issues—from infrastructure and economic development to public safety and youth empowerment.
Her accomplishment also sets a powerful example for other public servants across the region: that growth doesn’t stop at election — it begins there.
Marlboro County Government officially commends Councilwoman Pearly Lawson for her hard work, vision, and continued pursuit of excellence. Her leadership is helping build a stronger, more informed future for all residents.
