MARLBORO COUNTY — A human skeleton was found on a farm in rural South Carolina last week, officials said.
The Marlboro County coroner said the skeleton was discovered in the Adamsville area on Friday, Aug. 1.
It has been reported the exact area where the remains were found is a vacant farm, and that the skeleton was found when someone was mowing the property.
The coroner said his office was working to figure out who the person was and how they died. Officials have not said how long the person may have been dead, nor if foul play is suspected.
In addition to the coroner’s office, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and a forensic pathologist were also involved in the investigation.
