Former Virginia Tech standout Caitlyn Nolan has signed a professional softball contract with Blue Girls Bologna, an independent professional fastpitch team based in Bologna, Italy.
“I still have a lot to give to this sport on the playing side. I want to see how far I can take my playing career, and I want to compete at a high level,” said Nolan on her future softball goals.
A native of Bennettsville, Nolan is a 2015 graduate of Marlboro County High School.
Nolan was a four-year starter at shortstop for Virginia Tech and she also holds the schools’ single-season home run record.
“Nolan lives softball. On the field, she is one of the best defensive shortstops I’ve ever coached,” said Pete D’Amour, head softball coach at Virginia Tech. The Italian Softball League is a 15-team league that forms the top division of Italian Softball.
The regular season began on April 2 and will continue through early July, with playoffs running from late August through mid-September.
Breaks in the schedule will be made for teams to participate in the Tournament of the Republic, the World Championship, the Junior European Championship and the European Cups throughout the summer.
Nolan arrived in Italy in early March to prepare for the season. She will play shortstop for Blue Girls Bologna.
