MCCOLL — Seven students were awarded college scholarships Sunday, August 3 at McColl Main Street Methodist Church.

Recipients of the annual Bruce and Mary LeRoy Stanton Memorial Scholarships were: Grayson Nolan, Abbey Pearce, Emerson McCraw, Mason Thomas, Kaylee Williams and Brianna McDaniels.

The annual Hope House FCA Scholarship was awarded to Lottie Best.

Joe Murphy presided over the morning worship service, assisted by Brenda Jones. Guest speaker was former Stanton Scholar, Sydney Freeman. Gunner Jackson of the MCHS FCA provided the music.

Hope House teacher awards were given to Rhonda Odom and Christy Bradley Gibson.

The Stanton Scholarships are given in loving memory of the children of the late Colonel and Mrs. LeRoy Stanton. Both children died in tragic accidents: Bruce, in 1968, in a sand tunnel collapse at the beach; Mary LeRoy, in 1978, when she fell from a horse.

The scholarships are intended to help other young people realize their dreams through education.
