MARLBORO COUNTY — Returning to the issue of a medical facility for Marlboro County, county council members heard an update from County Administrator Wilson “Tony” Clyburn on where the county currently stands with the sale of the property, or ordinance 872, that was the former site of the county’s hospital.

The undertaking is largely known to the public as “Project Fountain.”

“I just want to clarify for the council and the public, that ordinance 872 is an ordinance that gives Marlboro County the right to convey property, as we do anytime we convey property. This is not a negotiation as to what is going to be there. What I can say now is that, and I don’t want to get into negotiation, what I can say we are looking at is a medical facility being at the Marlboro Park Hospital building and other types of development around,” said Clyburn.

He went on to explain the county is not selling the property to an entity with plans to tear it down and put in something different.

He explained, “We do want a medical facility in that location. That is part of the negotiations that are going on right now. I don’t want to get into too much detail about that, but I do want to say at least that part just to calm down some minds and make sure people understand what we are really trying to do here in Marlboro County.”

Council member Lafeyette Jackson made a motion to approve the ordinance, which was seconded by Verd Odom.

The motion passed unanimously.
