BENNETTSVILLE — Investigators with the Marlboro County Sheriff’s office took Marcus Johnson into custody after noticing Johnson walk into the Walmart in Bennettsville, because they were aware Johnson had an outstanding arrest warrant related to another case they have recently investigated. While in custody, Johnson admitted to Inv. Hatcher he stole items from Walmart. The items were then retrieved from his book bag and returned to the manager, who requested to press charges against Johnson. Now charged with shoplifting and served with the outstanding arrest warrant for receiving stolen goods, Johnson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center. Case closed by arrest.

September 17

BENNETTSVILLE — Jamar Glimore & Shymaine Williams were arrested by MCSO deputies and charged with Assault & Battery. Deputies were dispatched to AMI For Kids following a call from emergency communications alerting them to a large fight underway. At the scene, deputies found the fight under control. Through information obtained from the statements of staff and other individuals involved, law enforcement determined Gilmore and Williams initiated the physical altercation. Gilmore and Williams, who are both over the age of 18, were taken into custody and transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center without incident. Case closed by arrest.

MCCOLL — On September 6, deputies responded to a 911 call from a female requesting an escort to a location in McColl when a family was member passing away. After arriving, the complainant stated that a no-contact order was in place between herself and her in-laws, and verbal threats were made against her and her husband. At that time, a report was filed, despite there being no evidence. A few hours later, the complainant contacted emergency communication services again, this time to request an officer. Following up, Corporal K. Little made contact with the complainant and was presented with voicemails from the brother-in-law proving threats were made against the complainant and her husband. On September 17, Mark Shelley was taken into custody after surrendering to deputies at the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office in relation to the threats made. He was transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center without incident. A bond hearing took place later on September 17, where Shelley received a $1,000 PR bond. Another victim in the above case, Amy Brayboy, was present during the bond hearing of Mark Shelley and left the courtroom using profane language and slammed the door. Next, Brayboy came to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office requesting to speak with officers. Brayboy continued to state she was upset with the results of the bond hearing. Lieutenant B. Stubbs, along with Brayboy’s husband, attempted to calm her down. Lieutenant Stubbs explained to Brayboy the Sheriff’s Office has no bearing on the bond amount set by a judge in any case. She then threatened the person the bond was set on, and at that point, was arrested for disorderly conduct and transferred to the Marlboro County Detention Center. At a bond hearing September 18, Brayboy received a $257.50 PR Bond. Case closed by arrest.

MARLBORO — September 17, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Director of the Humane Society of Marlboro County an employee named Tracey McDowell, was caught on camera stealing items from her office. Initially, McDowell served a court-ordered community service agreement for probation at the Humane Society, and upon completion, was offered a position at the shelter. McDowell was an employee with the Humane Society since late August. Following the call, the digital evidence was forwarded to investigators. A reviewal of the footage resulted in an arrest warrant for Tracey McDowell, which was served September 18, when deputies arrested her, and charged her with Breach of Trust. Taken into custody without incident, McDowell was transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center, where, after a bond appearance, she received a $1,000 PR bond.
