Lady Dragons to play for state title
The Marlboro Academy softball team will face  Pee Dee Academy this week for the  2017 SCISA Class AA Softball State Championship.  The Lady Dragons qualified for the championship series by winning their bracket in the state tournament this weekend.

Reward offered in missing girl case

A reward of $10,000 has been offered for information leading to the recovery of eight year-old Iyana Lowery, who has been missing since the May 5th stabbing death of mother, Ella Lowery, in Bennettsville.

Charges dropped in Lowery murder case

Sheriff Charles Lemon announced Friday morning that the charges against Dwayne Jermaine Bright have been dropped.
Bright, 36, was arrested May 7 and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, in connection with the May 5 stabbing death of Ella Shantrice Lowery on Craig Circle.

Search continues for missing Bennettsville child
For almost a week now, law enforcement and the community at large have been focused on one burning question - “Where is Iyana?” - and one desperate, heartfelt desire - to bring her home. 
Eight-year-old Iyana Lowery turned up missing Friday morning, May 5, the same time her mother, Ella Lowery, 36, was found dead inside their home on Craig Circle in Bennettsville.

Winn-Dixie property transfer gets final approval

This week, Marlboro County Council completed the process of transferring ownership of the old Winn-Dixie building on Oakwood Street in Bennettsville to Northeastern Technical College (NETC). 
NETC will use the facility for a vocational education/industry training center, officials announced earlier this year. They said at the time that  it would offer ongoing vocational education programs such as welding, industrial controls and diesel mechanics, as well as specialized, industry-specific classes as needed by existing industries.
